OK, it’s the May bank holiday weekend, so what does one do? A bit of DIY? Maybe a spot of gardening? or tackle the mass mess in the shed that has build up over months and months? Answer equals non of the above, you jump in the car and burn up the M1 to Silverstone for what can only be described as automotive pornography. We are talking Austin Martins, Lambo’s, Ferrari’s, Maserati’s and Corvettes to name but a few.
This weekend saw the opening round of the FIA GT Championships visit Silverstone with support races from FIA GT3 European Championships, the GT4 European Cup and British F3 Championships. A reasonable sized crowd was in attendance for race day and what a day of racing it was. This event, Round 1 of the championships, has a long running tradition of the Royal Automobile Club Trophy, which this year was won by the K plus K motorsport outfit in the Saleen S7 ,which was piloted by Wendlinger and Sharp who led for most of the two hour race.
If you have not been to this even before then we strongly recommend that you attend next year, it is a real good day out with some amazing machinery on track.![]()

2009 BTCC SEASON KICKS OFF AT BRANDS
Well its that time of the years again, time for a new season of the British Touring Car Championships, and as usual Brands Hatch, Kent plays host. New teams, new young drivers, new cars, some old faces returning mixed with the usual mob sees an exciting line up on the grid.
The star of the qualifying session was Matt Neal in the VXR Vectra putting in the fastest touring car lap of the Brands indy circuit, so for race one all cars are running naked, with no ballast on board. The BMWs were quick off the block but Neal battled back to take win one closely followed by team mate and two time champ Giovanardi.
Race two brought the local boys, Motorbase performance their first win win Rob Collard at the wheel after a little knock with second place Terkington for team RAC, with race one winner Matt Neal in third.
The final race of the day saw new boy Jonathen Adam cross the line first, however after THAT knock on paddock hill bend which sent Plato more sidways that an oldskool MK2 escort, the stewards awarded him a 4second penality handing the win back to Plato, who did somewhat struggle in the last minute deal package of the Chevrolet.
Overall a classic start to the season, plenty of action on the track in superb weather conditions kept the fans well
entertained on the day. The next round heads off to Thruxton, towards the end of April.
